The Animal Pound provides a safe haven for lost and abandoned pets within our Shire and has a very successful rehoming program with various no-kill shelters.
If you have seen or found a lost animal please lodge a lost report with Council by calling Customer Service on 03 5775 8555.

Council’s Domestic Animal Pound is located at Lakins Road, Mansfield.
Open by appointment only during working hours: 8:30am – 4:30pm Monday to Friday (closed public holidays).

Dogs and cats found at large are held at the Council Pound for 8 days.
Any pet not claimed after this period, will be assessed for suitability for rehoming and sent to one of Council’s affiliated no-kill shelters.

If your pet is impounded, the following fees apply prior to release. You may also be liable for infringements for your pet being at large if it isn't registered with Council.
No payments facilities are available at the pound. Payments are to be made in person at Council's municipal office prior to attending the pound.
Fees
- Impound Fee (first offence): $100.00 per animal
- Impound Fee (second & subsequent offence): $200.00
- Maintenance Fee: $38.00 per day, per animal
- Registration Fee (if pet unregistered and desexed): $45.00
- Registration Fee (if pet unregistered and not desexed): $165.00
All animals must be microchipped and registered before they leave the pound.
