The L2P Learner Driver Mentor Program is a VicRoads initiative funded by TAC that aims to assist learners under 21 years of age, who do not have access to a supervising driver or vehicle, to gain the driving experience required to apply for a probationary licence.
Young people are matched with fully licensed volunteer mentors and have access to a sponsored vehicle, which they can use to get supervised driving experience. L2P is free for eligible young people and is funded by the Transport Accident Commission.
While gaining the required driving hours with the mentor, the learner driver will also have the opportunity to access some driving lessons (funded by the program) with a professional driving instructor to further enhance their driving skills.
To join the Mansfield Shire Council L2P program, you need to meet the following criteria:
- be between 16 and 20 years of age
- have a current Learner's Permit
- not have any health issues that affect safe driving
- be unable to achieve the 120 hours of required practice without the L2P program due to challenging financial, family or personal circumstances
- be living in Mansfield Shire
Learners can apply online by filling in the e-form on the VicRoads website.
Alternatively, please contact the L2P Coordinator Amelia Turner on 0437 886 339 or email amelia.turner@mansfield.vic.gov.au
Volunteer Mentors
The L2P Learner Driver Mentor Program is a VicRoads initiative funded by TAC that aims to assist learners under 21 years of age, who do not have access to a supervising driver or vehicle, to gain the driving experience required to apply for a probationary licence.
Young people are matched with fully licensed volunteer mentors and have access to a sponsored vehicle, which they can use to get supervised driving experience. L2P is free for eligible young people and is funded by the Transport Accident Commission.
Volunteer mentors are trained by Vic roads and need to complete police and licence checks and have a Working with Children’s Check as they will be working with vulnerable young people.
So, if you have 2 hours to spare each week, hold a Victorian Driver’s licence, enjoy driving and would like to work with young people to assist them in getting their 120 hours driving experience to be safety road users then this might be the position for you.
If you are interested in joining the L2P program as a volunteer mentor, please direct your enquiry to the L2P Coordinator Amelia Turner on 0437 886 339 or email amelia.turner@mansfield.vic.gov.au
