MAV Stand for Council

Mansfield Shire Council has partnered with the Municipal Association of Victoria (MAV) to deliver the 2024 Stand for Council: Community and Candidate Information Sessions

The Stand for Council Program provides prospective candidates important information regarding the 2024 council elections, the role of council and the responsibilities of being a councillor. It aims to build community awareness to understand the important role of voters in delivering local democracy and representation.

By attending a MAV Stand for Council Community and Candidate Information Session, participants will be provided with information about:

  • Local government and the important role councils play for our local communities
  • The role and responsibility of a Councillor, Mayor, Deputy Mayor and CEO
  • The election process and candidate requirements
  • What newly elected councillors can expect soon after the elections
  • Councillor training and development opportunities

Mansfield Shire Council is facilitating a session so that community members may attend a local session on Thursday 27 June 2024 at 6.00pm in the Council Chamber at 33 Highett Street, Mansfield. You must register to attend this session online here, via email to governance@mansfield.vic.gov.au or call 5775 8555.

Sessions relevant to Mansfield Shire prospective candidates are as follows. These will be offered both in-person and online via MS Teams:

  • Tuesday 11 June: Goulburn Ovens Murray Session 1 – Host: Strathbogie Shire Council

  • Wednesday 12 June: Goulburn Ovens Murray Session 2 – Host: Mitchell Shire Council

  • Thursday 13 June: Goulburn Ovens Murray Session 3 – Host: Wangaratta Rural City Council

To support and encourage a range of diverse candidates the MAV will also be hosting a number of additional sessions for women, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, people with disabilities, youth, culturally and linguistically diverse and LGBTIQA+ communities.
