Future Proof

A consortium led by Youth Affairs Council Victoria (YACVic) recieved an Australian Government Black Summer Bushfire Recovery grant for ‘Future Proof: Young People, Disaster Recovery and (Re)building Communities’, to drive recovery outcomes for fire-affected young people in Victoria. Future Proof Partners are located in Alpine, East Gippsland, Indigo, Mansfield, Towong, Wangaratta, Wellington, and Wodonga.

For Mansfield, this has created the position of a Youth Project Officer role and Peer Worker roles. They will be co-ordinating the Youth Advisory Group and Qualification Pathways/Traineeships.

Youth Advisory Group

Mansfield Shire Youth are seeking 10 young people between 12-25 years old within our community to drive decision making about events and training opportunities for young people: with a focus on making amazing opportunities for young people and building a stronger and more resilient community. You will be supported by Mansfield Shire Council Youth Workers and YACVic (Youth Affairs Council of Victoria) to connect with other local young people who are passionate about change and building a strong community. This is an opportunity to have your say, empower others and create change!

To be eligible to be part of the Youth Advisory Group, you will need to be:

  • Aged 12-25 inclusive
  • Have lived or are currently living, working, or studying in Mansfield
  • Passionate about your community and natural disaster recovery
  • Respectful, committed, and happy to work well with others from a wide range of backgrounds and identities
  • Available to participate in monthly meetings
  • Willing to provide/obtain a Working with Children Check (if you are over 18 and we will reimburse costs for these)

Those who join our Youth Advisory Group will be paid to the value of $35 per hour.

We are particularly keen to hear from young people in rural and regional communities who aren’t always heard and particularly support interest from young parents, disabled young people, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people, LGBTQIA+ young people, and young people from migrant and refugee communities.
