An encouraging number of representatives from Mansfield Shire’s tourism industry attended this week’s Tourism Connect network and planning meeting, signalling the local industry’s firm commitment to growing tourism and the visitor economy in the region.
Hosted by Mansfield Shire Council’s Tourism and Economic Development team, the meeting brought together tourism businesses, industry partners and stakeholders to discuss the Shire’s Destination Management Action Plan (DMAP), a practical roadmap guiding local tourism priorities over the coming years
Attendees also received an update on the ongoing bushfire recovery efforts, including relief and advocacy work, marketing initiatives and upcoming events.
Council and Tourism North East outlined regional marketing activity, including a major campaign designed to support visitation across the High Country.
However, the primary focus of the evening was engagement and collaboration.
Participants workshopped priority actions within the DMAP, helping to refine timelines, sequence projects and ensure delivery remains achievable and aligned with industry and council capacity. The collaborative approach reflects Council’s commitment to genuine stakeholder involvement in shaping tourism strategy and actions.
Mayor Cr Rabie believes the engagement in the meeting sends a strong message about the resilience of Mansfield’s tourism sector.
“Council is committed to strengthening tourism in our shire and we’re delighted to be able to partner and engage with the great tourism businesses of our shire to do so,” he said.
“Our visitor economy plays a vital role in the local jobs market and business sustainability. Seeing the industry come together following the impact of the recent bushfires and related road closures demonstrates resilience and a shared belief in what we can achieve.”
Council’s Tourism and Economic Development team has identified ongoing engagement as a key priority moving forward. Tourism Connect sessions will continue to provide opportunities for collaboration, information sharing and coordinated action.
The final DMAP will be refined following the workshops and presented to Council for endorsement, with several priority actions already underway.
