The Youth Centre has welcomed a new remote control racing track donated by Mansfield Secondary College.

The innovative project was designed and led by year 12 students with the support of teacher Kevin Murray and included college students Matthew Hearn in the role of project inspiration/leading manufacturer and Daniel Carter as construction assistant.

Before commencing the project, the students completed preliminary research, which included surveying fellow students and meeting with Mansfield Shire Council staff. They discovered that while there were many sport activities available in the Mansfield township, there was also an interest in seeing more diverse activities.

The students held fundraising activities to make and buy remote control cars and a racing track. They produced coasters, horse saddle stands and boxes, all from recycled wood, and raised an impressive $654.

Mayor Cr Steve Rabie said the racing track will be a great addition to the activities available to young people at the Youth Centre.

"This initiative not only showcases the students’ skills and creativity but is a great credit to their commitment to providing more recreational activities for young people locally,” he said.

Nola Cleeland, Executive Manager Community Health and Wellbeing said, "We're exploring partnerships to introduce even more engaging activities, fostering a dynamic and inclusive environment at the Youth Centre. The project with Mansfield Secondary College students is a great example of this."
