Proposed Upgrade Works for Highton Lane (IMPACT Route)

Residents will have the opportunity to provide feedback on the design of the proposed upgrade works for Highton Lane as part of the IMPACT Route (Integrating Mansfield’s Productivity, Agricultural Communities and Tourism) project.
The $12.3 million project is funded with $9.8 million from the Federal Government’s Remote Roads Upgrade Pilot Program (RRUP) and Council’s approved allocation of $2.5m, including $1.3m of development contributions.
The project is due to commence this year and will enable upgrades to several multipurpose roads including Highton Lane, Rifle Butts Road and Chapel Hill Road, to provide a touring link between Mansfield and Mt Buller with improved access and safety for residents, farmers and local businesses.
The upgrade work on Highton Lane will include localised widening and resealing of the road, new concrete kerb and channel, drainage upgrades, and the provision of footpaths on both sides of the road. Following the upgrade works, the streetscape will also be improved with tree planting, and Council will consult with residents over the species selection.
Mayor Cr James Tehan said Council has listened to the concerns raised by residents and is committed to improving the infrastructure in Highton Lane.
“We are committed to listening to community feedback and delivering on improving the road infrastructure across the Shire,” he said.
“Highton Lane has been prioritised as the first road to be upgraded as part of the IMPACT Route project and we hope it will help alleviate some of the concerns that residents have been expressing about the standard of the current road.
“An information and feedback session will be held to provide residents with an opportunity to give feedback on the design plans, as part of broader consultation with residents prior to any works commencing. Further advice will be provided on the time and date for this session in the coming weeks.”
Council has also been advocating with the Department of Transport for intersection improvements at the Highton Lane intersection with Mt Buller Road. Further information will be provided on this intersection as part of the community consultation process.
