New generator to keep Mansfield running in emergencies

Published on 19 December 2025

Mansfield Shire’s ability to respond to emergencies has received a significant boost, with the arrival of a new high-capacity mobile generator.

The new 63KVA generator and trailer, funded through a grant from the AusNet Services Community Energy Resilience Fund, ensures that essential community facilities can remain operational during severe weather events and power outages.

The project includes the installation of new input plugs at the Mansfield Youth Centre and Sporting Complex, allowing the mobile unit to plug in and power these sites immediately. This is in addition to existing connection points at the Shire Office and Depot.

Mayor Cr Steve Rabie says the investment is a proactive step towards practical preparedness.

“We know that extreme weather events are becoming more frequent. This generator ensures that when the power goes out, our critical community hubs can stay up and running,” said Cr Rabie.

“This unit is powerful enough to run buildings at key sites like the Sporting Complex - keeping the lights on, the heating running and the kitchen operational. This means these facilities can now serve as fully functional Emergency Relief Centres when our community needs them most.”

The trailer-mounted design allows the generator to be rapidly deployed to wherever it is needed most during an emergency. The $50,000 project was awarded to local contractor, Lovick Electrics, as part of Council’s commitment to supporting local business.

“This is a great example of building resilience at a local level. We thank AusNet for their support in helping us protect our community,” said Cr Rabie.
