Safer pedestrian access is now available between Mansfield’s centre and new estates along Mansfield-Whitfield Road thanks to a newly completed shared path.

Council has completed a 2.5-metre-wide gravel path from Kareen Court to Maple Tree Boulevard, linking to a continuous route to Mansfield Botanic Park and the town centre. The project also delivered extensions to the existing concrete footpath, upgraded crossing points, bicycle handrails and signage.

The path was officially completed on 30 May 2025, with additional modifications to a traffic island still to be finalised.

Mayor Cr Steve Rabie highlighted the importance of community feedback for the project.

“We know enhanced walking and cycling connections are important for our community,” he said.

"We listened carefully to the submissions made during the 2024-25 Council Budget process, which included a new path to Maple Tree Boulevard. We’re acting to deliver this important link and many other new paths.”

The Mansfield-Whitfield Road shared path is one of several priority paths featured in Council’s Footpath and Shared Path Strategy. The strategy details Council's vision for an interconnected network of pedestrian and cycling infrastructure in the Shire’s communities.

Council successfully advocated for funding from the Department of Transport and Planning’s Flexible Local Transport Solutions Program to construct the path. The program is providing $229,000 towards active transport projects in the Shire, including Mansfield-Whitfield Road and the recently completed shared path on Kidston Parade.
