Mansfield Shire Council celebrated 15 successful years of community service from the Transport Accident Commission (TAC) L2P Program on Monday 15 December.
A small birthday celebration took place outside Council’s municipal building at 33 Highett Street, complete with cake and Christmas presents for the volunteers who give up their time to provide the learner drivers of the community a vital opportunity to grow their driving skills and experience. Cr Bonnie Clark, a former coordinator of the L2P program, spoke to the attendees paying tribute to the role the program plays within the community.
Mayor Cr Steve Rabie is pleased to see the program receiving the attention and the credit it deserves for the important work it does within the community.
“Teaching young kids the skills they need responsible drivers is such an important thing in rural communities. The positive impacts the L2P program has on those who pass through the system can’t be understated. I'd like to thank everyone who has made such a vital program such a massive success over the past 15 years,” he said.
"It’s the generosity of the volunteers and sponsors who have made it possible for 114 Mansfield Shire learner drivers pass through the L2P program, you’ve made a very real contribution to road safety and youth independence in our shire. On behalf of Council and the community, thank you all very much.”
At the event, Council and program sponsors Mansfield Motor Group unveiled the new L2P program vehicle, heard from program mentor Ian Partridge and welcomed Bronte MacPhee who recently obtained her Ps after being a learner in the program.
The program continues to benefit from strong community partnerships and sponsorship, including Alpine Driving School, Mansfield Motor Group, Stik-it Bespoke Design, the Rotary Club of Mansfield and Radio Mansfield, whose ongoing support helps the program thrive.
Mansfield Shire Council extends its sincere thanks to all volunteers, partners and supporters who have contributed to 15 successful years of helping young people become safe, confident and responsible drivers.
