Malcolm Street Shared Path Works to Commence

Construction of a new sealed shared path on the northern side of Malcolm Street is planned to commence on Tuesday 13 June and expected to finish by the end of July. Works will take place between 8.00am and 5.00pm during this time.

The construction works will take place between the intersection of Malcolm St with Ultimo St and extend to the intersection with Kidston Pde and will include the following:

  • Preparation and sealing of new sections of the path
  • Reconstruction and widening of an existing section of the path
  • Spray sealing of the new shared path, including across existing gravel driveways
  • Street crossings with line markings
  • Installation of signage (including give-way and bike signage)
  • Installation of U-bars at crossings
  • Culvert construction as required

Mayor Cr James Tehan said he is excited to see the significant benefits these works will provide the community.

"This is a very exciting project for the community and offers some major benefits,” he said.

“The shared path, once completed, will help to provide a safer route for all footpath users and enhance connectivity to transport, schools and local businesses. It will also create a more attractive area for residents and visitors.”

While works are underway residents will still have access to their properties but are advised to please use on-street parking where possible. Residents will be directly notified by the contractor about specific details regarding work times and requirements.

Traffic management will be in place with a reduced speed limit of 40km/h. Drivers are advised to follow any signage and travel safely when in the area.

This project is jointly funded by Council and the Transport Accident Commission (TAC) through the TAC Local Government Grant Program. The $217,870.04 (excl GST) contract will be completed by Ground Technique Pty Ltd.
