LAPS pool enclosure progresses with award of contract

Mansfield Shire Council is pleased to announce the contract for the design and construction of a new enclosure at the Mansfield Learners Pool, marking an important step forward in improving community aquatic facilities.
Following a competitive tender process, Council has awarded the contract to local outfit Cronin Construction. The project will see the delivery of a purpose-built enclosure designed to enhance usability.
Mayor Cr Steve Rabie has called the project a significant step forward for community wellbeing and accessibility of aquatic facilities.
“This project will greatly improve the functionality and comfort of the learners pool, ensuring it can be used across more seasons and by a wider range of community members,” he said.
“The enclosure will provide protection from the elements, improved water temperature management and create a more inclusive and accessible space for families, children, and those learning to swim.”
This project is part of the Learners Accessible Pool Scheme (LAPS) which is being developed by Mansfield Shire Council in partnership with the Victorian Government.
Project funding includes a $1,000,000 contribution from the Victorian Government, a Council contribution of $750,741 and co-contributions of $10,000 from Bendigo Community Bank and $2,000 from the Year-round Aquatic Facility Mansfield (YAFM) group.
Mansfield Learner Accessible Pool Scheme (LAPS) works include:
- A retractable pool enclosure
- Upgrades to the learners pool building
- A new pool pod with accessible entry into both the learners and 33m pools
- A sensory play area
- A new learner pool liner
- A solar PV system.
The project aligns with the aim of the Regional Community Sport Infrastructure Fund (RCSIF) by increasing participation in sport and active recreation, particularly for people with disabilities and disadvantaged groups.
The learners pool enclosure will link directly to the proposed swimming pool changeroom ‘winterisation’ that will provide the facility upgrades needed to operate a limited year-round season.
This project reflects Council’s ongoing commitment to delivering high-quality community infrastructure that supports health, recreation, and inclusion across the Mansfield Shire.
