Keep an Eye Out for Walk to School Maps
Published on 10 October 2025
With the warmer weather here, it’s the perfect time for families to embrace walking to school. To support this, Mansfield Shire Council is distributing updated Walk to School Maps to children via their schools.
These colourful, easy-to-follow maps are part of the Active Footpaths initiative and highlight the safest and most accessible routes to school within the township. Parents and carers are encouraged to check their child’s school bag this week, sit down together to review the best walking route and start building healthy, active habits as a part of their daily routine.
Mayor Cr Steve Rabie said the initiative was a simple and effective way to support the health and wellbeing of local children.
“Walking to school is a simple way to stay active, connect with your child and build independence” said Cr Rabie.
“The new maps make it easier than ever for families to choose a safe and enjoyable route, now is the perfect time to get started.”
Walking to school not only helps children stay fit and focused, it also supports reduced traffic around schools and fosters a stronger sense of community. Whether you’re walking every day or just once a week, it all counts towards a healthier lifestyle.
"These maps are more than just a guide, they're a tool for teaching our kids valuable life skills. Walking to school with your kids is the perfect opportunity to teach them about road safety, how to navigate their neighbourhood and how to be aware of their surroundings," said Cr Rabie.
To celebrate the new maps and Children’s Week 2025, families are invited to join a fun, free community walk on Thursday 23 October, starting at Mansfield Primary School at 11am and finishing at Botanical Park. The walk will include interactive activities along the route, a stop at the Mansfield Library and a free BBQ at the finish line. All are welcome.

- Fun, interactive activities along the route, including a scavenger hunt focusing on safe travel and pathways
