As part of Council’s ongoing renewal program for public toilets, the upgrade of the toilet block in Perkins Street, Jamieson is now getting the finishing touches and expected to be finished this month.

The refurbished block has additional toilet cubicles, with 2 new female and 1 new male cubicle added to increase capacity. New roof sheeting and the newly painted and tiled walls have given the block a fresh, new appearance. Exterior lighting, a new water tank and a new baby changing table are also being added. Funding for the $200,000 upgrade was included in Council’s 2021-22 Budget.

With increasing visitor numbers in Jamieson, residents and visitors have often had to wait for a cubicle during the tourism season or around events. Community members saw an opportunity to both increase capacity and refurbish the old and somewhat tired toilet block in a similar style to the recently upgraded public toilets in Mansfield. The Jamieson Community Group worked closely with Council officers to develop the scope of works for the upgrade.

“Adequate and clean facilities are an important part of creating an active community environment, and also contribute to the town’s character and attractiveness to visitors,” Mayor James Tehan said.

“Council was glad to support the Jamieson community with an upgrade to the toilet block. We’re happy to see the township take pride in its public amenities.”

Former Jamieson Community Group Secretary Sue Malins said “This is what we were expecting, we think it looks fantastic.”

Works are scheduled for completion in late August.
