Illuminating Safety and Accessibility at Botanic Park

Recently installed solar-powered light bollards are lighting up the Mansfield Botanic Park, all set as the winter dark sets in.
With no previous permanent lighting in the park, the upgrade represents a significant enhancement, supporting safer movement and greater confidence for visitors using the space between dusk and dawn.
Mayor Cr Steve Rabie believes the upgrade will help the community get more out of one of Mansfield Shire’s most beloved assets.
“We know the Botanic Park is well-loved by our community,” he said.
“We are already hearing how the solar-powered light bollards have made a welcome addition to the space. As we move further into winter, they will continue to prove their value by helping people get more use from the Botanic Park.”
The project has already received strong positive feedback from the community, with residents welcoming the improvements to safety and noting enhanced accessibility for those with low vision.
Daryl Hunt, a Mansfield Shire resident, celebrated the lighting infrastructure upon a community noticeboard.
“Well done to Mansfield Shire for installing lights along the main path running through the Botanic Park,” he said.
“It will make it safer for everybody including those us with visual issues. Autumn is looking great. I only wish John Fogarty (Mansfield Shire Council Superintendent of Parks and Gardens 1961-1995) was still with us to see how the park he did so much to create is looking now
Solar-powered bollards were selected for their economic benefits, operating independently and minimising environmental impact. The technology also offers a cost-effective solution with lower ongoing maintenance and operational costs compared to traditional grid connected lighting.
This simple but important upgrade demonstrates a commitment to creating safe, inclusive and sustainable public spaces, ensuring Botanic Park remains enjoyable for the community at all hours of the day.
