On Wednesday 17 May, Mansfield Shire marked the International Day Against LGBTIQA+ Discrimination (IDAHOBIT) with Councillor Paul Sladdin attending the Rainbow Flag raising at the Visitor Information Centre (VIC).

IDAHOBIT is a global day for celebrating diversity and raising awareness of the negative effects of discrimination against the LGBTIQA+ community. Mansfield Shire’s commitment to a culture where everyone feels safe and supported is demonstrated through steps taken such as joining other Councils and organisations within the Ovens Murray Region to support the North East Pride Collective (NEPC) - an advocacy and youth leadership group for LGBTIQA+ young people and their allies.

“If you would like to talk to someone, or find out about available support options, Mansfield Shire Youth Program is a safe and inclusive space for LGBTIQA+ communities and allies.” said Coordinator Mansfield Shire Youth, Jasmine Godfrey.

The use of support networks is also encouraged if required, such as the state-wide support network Switchboard, who provide peer-driven support services for LGBTIQA+ communities, their families and allies, as well as the broader community.
