Mansfield Shire Council continues to consult with the community to consider how best to implement legislated changes requiring councils to offer separate collection services for glass and food and organic waste. A number of workshops have been scheduled for community members to work with Council to consider the feedback received to date about the proposed changes to the recycling and waste services in our Shire.

These changes will require Council to determine how different types of recycling and waste are collected and how frequently. Council is committed to community consultation, particularly in these decisions which will have lasting impacts on the community.

To assist with understanding the legislated changes, Council has compiled easy-to-understand information that explains some of the opportunities and challenges that need to be considered in planning future recycling and waste services. This information and what we have been told so far can be found at engage.mansfield.vic.gov.au

Mayor Cr James Tehan said that the collection, processing and disposal of waste and recyclables is the largest single cost component of our budget and makes up 24% of our expenditure.

“The next round of engagement will provide the opportunity for the community to participate in one of three sessions to be conducted by a community engagement specialist, said Cr Tehan.

“At these sessions, we will consider responses to survey questions received such as, ‘When you think of our new recycling and waste services, what’s most important to you?’

“It’s important that we receive the community’s thoughts and feedback on what we have been told so far and to know if there is anything that we haven’t considered,” said Cr Tehan.

The workshops will also overview the tender for the new recycling and waste services contract that commences in July 2024 and drill into options and considerations for future recycling and waste services in Mansfield Shire.

The workshops are scheduled to occur in the morning and afternoon of Friday 9 September and on Saturday morning, 10 September. Registered participants will be advised of confirmed times and venue as soon as they are finalised.

If you would like to nominate to be part of one of the workshops, please either complete the Deliberative Panel nomination form on the ‘Changes to Recycling and Waste Services in Mansfield Shire’ page at engage.mansfield.vic.gov.au or email council@mansfield.vic.gov.au for a nomination form.
