Roundabout Chenery St/High St

Mansfield Shire Council invites the community to provide feedback for concept designs of beautification works on two of Mansfield's roundabouts. The first roundabout at Chenery Street and High Street, and the second at Malcolm Street and Highett Street.

Deputy Mayor Cr Steve Rabie said both designs are inspired by the natural landscapes of our Shire with consideration for the practicalities of the sites, such as keeping a low profile to help preserve drivers' view of oncoming traffic.

“Many members of our community enjoy and take pride in the beautiful gardens and police monument of Mansfield's central roundabout.

“The inspiration for the beautification of the roundabouts came from Council’s Parks & Gardens team who developed designs to further enhance Mansfield’s township’s character” he said.

The Chenery Street - High Street roundabout design features a representation of five leaves. The flat sculptures consist of timber stems with rust-finish "Form Boss" edging, topped with a loose granite surface in alternating colours. The leaves are arranged around a tiered central rock bed.

The Malcolm Street - Highett Street Roundabout design has several features, focussed on a rock 'riverbed' flowing from one side to the other. Three garden beds give colour with overflowing creeping plants and rust-finish ‘Form Boss’ edging. Three larger boulders accentuate the garden beds.

Council’s Supervisor of Parks & Gardens, Lauren McGinty, said the new designs will enhance the appearance of the roundabouts and offer practical benefits.

“We were looking for a solution that would be effective, beautiful and sustainable and have designs requiring very little maintenance. The standout features will be the use of wicking beds which will only require weekly watering and removing the need for irrigation.

“Consideration has gone into all aspects of the designs and we are excited to share it with the community” she said.
