Council is seeking community feedback on designs for a potential new shared path and footbridge along Greenvale Lane – a critical missing link identified in the 2022 Footpath and Shared Path Strategy.

Greenvale Lane is an important 80km/h road that forms part of the Mansfield Heavy Vehicle Alternative Route. Currently, the existing vehicle bridge over Ford Creek has no provision for pedestrians, forcing people to share the bridge with high-speed traffic, which poses a safety risk.

Council’s proposal is for a new bridge alongside the existing road bridge, offering a safer alternative for walkers, cyclists and horse riders. The proposed new path would link the bridge to existing shared paths to the north and south of Ford Creek.

Mayor Cr Steve Rabie said the proposal was about creating safe, accessible connections and encouraging active transport.

"Adding a safe crossing over Ford Creek on Greenvale Lane is an important part of growing Mansfield’s path network,” he said.

“The existing bridge has no footpath and is difficult for pedestrians, cyclists and horse riders to cross. Now that trucks are using the new heavy vehicle route instead of going through the centre of town, we think this new footbridge is essential. The new bridge and paths will allow you to stay completely separated from traffic when you’re out for a walk or a ride.

“I encourage everyone to take a look at our concepts for the new path and bridge and let us know what you think. We’re listening to you so we can make sure we get it right,” Cr Rabie said.
