How often should bins be collected? Why is glass proposed to be separated into another (purple) bin? When will a green/organic waste service be introduced? How much will this cost?

Over several months Mansfield Shire Council has been engaging the community to obtain feedback on the frequency and extent of waste and recycling services. Council is now calling on anyone who is interested to participate in one last community engagement session.

Mayor Cr James Tehan said that this was an important decision that Council was making in consultation with the community.

“Everyone in our Shire is touched by our recycling and waste services so it is essential that we understand how to best deliver them,” said Cr Tehan.

“We know our community cares about environment and sustainability and waste management has serious environmental impacts.

“There is a lot to consider and we’ve been asking the community to tell us the best way forward to meet changed legislative requirements for waste in Victoria. Now, we’re having one last face-to-face engagement session to seek community feedback and test what we have heard so far.

“I encourage everyone to consider participating to help shape the future of our waste and recycling services in Mansfield Shire,” said Cr Tehan.

From July 2024, Mansfield Shire Council will need to meet new legislative requirements for the separation of waste set by the Victorian Government’s Circular Economy Plan. This will involve a four stream recycling and waste service with the introduction of a separate glass collection and a food and organic waste service in addition to landfill and recycling waste collections.
