Council requests feedback on Bonnie Doon netball facilities

A funding application is being prepared by Mansfield Shire Council, in partnership with Bonnie Doon Football Netball Club, to support the redesign and upgrade of the netball facilities at the Bonnie Doon Rec Reserve.
We are applying for state government funding under the Local Sports Infrastructure Fund (LSIF) - Community Facilities stream. The project has been identified as a top community priority.
Despite regular maintenance, the current courts have reached the end of their serviceable life and are now require a major upgrade to make them safe for both local clubs and broader community use.
Mayor Cr Steve Rabie believes the proposed upgrades to the netball facilities at Bonnie Doon Rec Reserve will bring them in line with the club’s incredible recent sporting successes.
“The Bonnie Doon Netball Club is an important contributor to Mansfield Shire’s history of sporting excellence and we want the quality of the facilities the club play on to match the quality of their performances,” he said.
“Just last season they won four of five grand finals and finished runner up in the fifth. They are a brilliant netball club and they represent the Bonnie Doon and broader Mansfield Shire communities wonderfully. It’s time the facilities they play upon reflect that.”
The project scope of works is:
- Complete excavation, sub-base, and surface construction
- Advanced drainage installation
- Two competition-standard netball courts
- Line markings for:
-
- One dedicated full-size netball court
- One multi-sport court suitable for netball and a range of other sports
- New lighting suitable for evening training and twilight games
- New perimeter fencing with accessible entry points
- An accessible path linking the clubhouse and courts
- Additional supporting infrastructure including team and official shelters, sport nets, and padded goalposts
“The design has been shaped in consultation with the Bonnie Doon Football Netball Club, the Recreation Reserve Reference Group, Netball Victoria and the Ovens & King League.”
“Community feedback has confirmed strong local support for this project, with the belief being that it will provide wide benefits for sport, health, and social connection in Bonnie Doon.”
The community engagement process is ongoing and the Bonnie Doon and Mansfield Shire netball communities are encouraged to participate through the Engage Mansfield platform.
Community feedback is a critical component of Council's funding application to the state government's 2025-26 Local Sports and Infrastructure Fund (LSIF).
