A new carpark accommodating 100 car parking bays will soon be available in Mansfield’s central district following Mansfield Shire Council’s recent purchase of a large vacant block of land at 34 High St.

Mayor Cr James Tehan said Council is seeking community input to ensure a collaborative approach to the planning stages of the project.

“Council is asking the community to provide feedback on options relating to carpark configuration, pedestrian access and traffic movement. We want to make sure the community's needs and aspirations are heard, understood and wherever possible, taken on board,” Cr Tehan said.

The 3,180 square metre vacant block, formerly the site of a Caltex Service Station, was purchased by Council at a cost of $1.3 million.

The new carpark will contribute to the shopping and leisure experience of community members and visitors as Mansfield’s extraordinary growth continues.

“Council has made the strategic decision to carve out the opportunity for more parking in our central business district, alleviating congestion on High Street and making it easier for the community and visitors to access services and businesses,” Cr Tehan said.

He said interested people can register to be involved by visiting Council’s website at engage.mansfield.vic.gov.au or by contacting Council directly. The consultation is open until 17 August 2022.

Car park construction is scheduled to begin in the latter half of this financial year.
