Mansfield Shire Council has appointed Kirsten Alexander as its new Chief Executive Officer.

Ms Alexander, who has been Council’s General Manager Infrastructure and Planning since 2020, was appointed to a four-year term following endorsement at an Additional Meeting of Council on Tuesday 2 August 2022.

Mayor Cr James Tehan said the recruitment process, conducted and supported by Davidson Recruitment, was thorough with many strong applicants to the position.

“The appointment of a new CEO is one of the most important roles of a Council and we’re pleased with the outcome of this process,” said Cr Tehan.

“Ms Alexander has extensive local government and senior management experience and has proven herself as a strong leader in her time at Mansfield Shire Council.

“We believe Ms Alexander is the best person to lead the organisation as we continue to deliver the best possible outcomes for our community.

Ms Alexander has previously served as Mayor of South Australia’s City of Charles Sturt Council and said this was where she developed her passion for engaging with communities.

“During my time as General Manager, I’ve been lucky enough to develop great relationships with community representatives and leaders who have helped me understand the character of Mansfield Shire, including the outlying townships and communities,” said Ms Alexander.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to lead Council’s team as we continue to deliver on outcomes and priorities for the whole community.”

Cr Tehan said Ms Alexander had demonstrated her ability to build a diverse, strong team that valued the community’s voice while delivering Council’s objectives.

“During her time as General Manager Infrastructure and Planning, Ms Alexander has been instrumental in leading the completion of major projects, including the $2m View Street carpark and road upgrade, and the $7m Mansfield dual court stadium to a high standard, despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“She has made significant improvements to service performance in the areas of statutory planning, capital works delivery, and maintenance of unsealed roads. We look forward to seeing how she leads the organisation as we continue to deliver on Council’s strategic objectives.”

Ms Alexander will commence as CEO on 5 September after Interim CEO Bill Millard concludes with Council. Cr Tehan thanked Mr Millard for his leadership through the period of transition on behalf of Council.
