Mansfield Shire Council is inviting community feedback on its updated On-site Wastewater Management Plan (OWMP), with the first round of engagement now open.

The OWMP outlines how on-site wastewater systems such as septic tanks will be managed across the Shire, particularly in areas without sewerage and within drinking water catchments.

With around 95% of the municipality located in a potable water catchment, effective wastewater management is critical to protecting public health, local waterways and Lake Eildon.

The draft Plan reflects updated legislation, including the Environment Protection Act 2017, improved data and risk-based planning, and input from agencies including Goulburn-Murray Water and Goulburn Valley Water.

Mayor Cr Steve Rabie has expressed the importance of community feedback in a matter that impacts them.

“Council is committed to listening to the community and acting on its wishes. There is a lot of local knowledge within our community, you know your shire. We encourage everyone to share their feedback on an important matter for our community,” he said.

Community feedback will help refine the Plan before it is presented to Council.
