The winners of the Children’s Book Week 2022 competition have been announced.

Mansfield Library ran the competition, which invited local children aged 4-17 to create a bookmark related to the theme ‘Dreaming with eyes open…’ which was the theme for this year’s official Children’s Book Week.

The 73 entries submitted to the library will be on display throughout October. All entrants will have their design returned to them as a bookmark with a certificate of participation.

Mayor Cr James Tehan congratulated the winners of the competition.

“Thank you to everyone who participated in the competition and created a bookmark to celebrate Children’s Book Week,” said Cr Tehan.

“The demonstration of creativity in our young citizens was encouraging and I was impressed by the talent and inspiration showed in the entries.

“While it was challenging to determine the winners, I congratulate those who were selected to receive a prize as part of the competition and I look forward to seeing how your designs are circulated through our community,” said Cr Tehan.

The winners for each category are:

13-17 years

  • 1st prize: Molly Diepeveen, 15 years
  • 2nd prize: Amelia Stevenson, 14 years

9-12 years

  • 1st Pichpanha Sorn, 12 years
  • 2nd Audra McCallion, 9 years

4-8 years

  • 1st prize: Elodie Durrant, 8 years
  • 2nd prize: Felicity Bennett, 4 years

Pichpanha Sorn said he felt nervous when he handed in his entry. “When I found out I won, I was happy and screaming. I was proud of myself”.
