Chenery Street Roundabout gets a facelift

Published on 01 March 2024

Chenery Street’s roundabout is about to have a facelift with beautification works beginning on 12 March 2024.

New landscaping in the centre of the roundabout will feature a design that represents five leaves. The flat sculptures consist of timber stems with a rust-finish edging and will be topped with a loose granite surface in alternating colours. The leaves will be arranged around a tiered central rock bed.

The works are park of the roundabout beautification project, which includes the Chenery-High Street Roundabout and the Malcolm-Highett Street Roundabout.

Community consultation took place in 2023, with designs changed to reflect the community’s request for more greenery. Small ground-cover plants will be included as a result.

Mayor Cr Steve Rabie said he was pleased to see works begin.

“This has been a great example of Council working with the community,” said Cr Rabie.

“Our Parks and Gardens team completed the designs in a way that is cost-effective and easy to maintain, while being visually appealing. We then asked the community for feedback and altered our plans to include what the community wanted.”

Works on the Chenery Street roundabout are scheduled to take place from 12 to 22 March 2024. Council is running simultaneous drainage works at the same time to minimise traffic disruption. Traffic management will be in place on Chenery Street between 7am and 5pm during works.
