Annual Kerb and Channel Renewal Program to commence
Published on 15 September 2025
Council’s annual Kerb and Channel Renewal Program is beginning soon on select streets across the Shire.
Commonly known as roadside “gutters”, the concrete kerb and channels play a vital role in directing stormwater from the road into the underground drainage network, helping to protect the road surface and prevent water damage.
Council undertakes regular inspections of kerb and channel infrastructure. Each year, the sections most in need of maintenance are selected for renewal works.
Alpine Civil Pty Ltd has been engaged to complete this year’s $104,450 renewal program.
Mayor Cr Steve Rabie said proactively maintaining kerb and channel infrastructure was important for the quality of Mansfield Shire’s huge road network.
“As part of managing ratepayers’ money responsibly, we do everything we can to get the best possible lifespan out of our roads. Properly functioning drainage systems play an important part in that. By regularly renewing our drainage infrastructure, we help ensure water is channelled correctly and causes minimal damage to our roads,” Cr Rabie said.
“This proactive maintenance ensures our infrastructure continues to meet the needs of our community and keeps our roads safer for everyone.”
The kerb and channel works are scheduled to begin on Monday 22 September along Alpine Ridge Drive, Stewart Street and Highett Street. Renewal works for Curia Street and High Street are scheduled for later in the month.
These works are expected to be completed by the end of October.
