Adventure into space at Mansfield Library this school holiday

Mansfield Library is inviting the children of Mansfield Shire to strap in and adventure into space this school holidays. Apprentice Astronauts will be able to choose from space themed fun and activities such as assembling a solar powered space rover, creating a galaxy lamp, painting a planet jigsaw puzzle and participating in a space workshop run by Melbourne company MAD about Science. 

Mayor Cr Steve Rabie, talking to ground control, said the program taps into the spirit of adventure, exploration and learning. 

“There’s no sense of possibility like the night’s sky through the eyes of a child,” he said. 

“Children will love the school holiday space program. The programs at the Library are always engaging and inspiring. We hope that this sparks children’s interest in astronomy.” 

“Council is very grateful to the Friends of Mansfield Library. The Friends always carefully work on these events to create fun, enriching activities for children. They have generously funded the Space workshop run by MAD about Science purchased all the materials for the school holiday activities.” 

Activities this holidays include: 

  • Planet puzzles: decorate a solar system jigsaw for ages 5-8.  

2:30pm - Thursday 9 April. 

  • Sun Speedsters: assemble a solar powered space rover for ages 8-13.  

2:30pm - Friday 10 April. 

  • LEGO launchpad: space exploration LEGO session for ages 5-8.  

2.30pm - Tuesday 14 April. 

  • MAD About Science Workshop: an out of this world space jam experience for ages 5-13. 

11am and 2pm - Wednesday 15 April. 

  • Starry Nightlights: create your own galaxy lamp for ages 5 – 13.  

2.30PM - Thursday 16 April. 

  • Cosmic Cinema: an animated film featuring a special space robot for ages 5+.  

2.30PM - Friday 17 April. 

A seek and find activity will also be available every day at the Library with small prizes to win.
