A step in the right direction: Have your say on concrete footpaths

Safer and more accessible footpaths are the priority as the community is invited to help identify key locations for repair in the upcoming concrete footpath renewal program.
A draft priority list of locations has been identified for works based on condition assessments, safety data and usage levels. The program focuses on renewing damaged or uneven surfaces to ensure the network remains safe and accessible for all users.
Mayor Cr Steve Rabie says local knowledge is essential in getting the best outcome for community.
“We need the community to feedback to make sure the program targets the areas that need to be targeted,” he said.
“Council has identified key sites through data collection but there is no substitute for community’s local knowledge. If you know of a site where the footpaths require urgent attention, please head to Engage Mansfield and let us know.”
The renewal program aims to address a range of common issues including uneven surfaces caused by tree roots, steep crossing ramps that are difficult for mobility aids and sections of sunken pavement that can pool water or create trip hazards.
By addressing these issues, the program aims to improve the overall connectivity and walkability of the township. A well-maintained footpath network is critical for ensuring residents can safely access local businesses, schools and services, regardless of their age or ability.
Residents can view the full list of proposed works on the Engage Mansfield website. The page also features an interactive map tool, allowing users to ‘drop a pin’ on specific locations where they have identified safety or mobility concerns.
Feedback on the draft plan is open until 6 January 2026.
