Preliminary works are set to start in August on Stage 2 of the Heavy Vehicle Alternate Route following the awarding of a $2.38 million contract. The tender was awarded to North East Civil Constructions who completed the works for Stage 1.

Stage 1 of the project has included road upgrades along Withers Lane and Dead Horse Lane, and is expected to be complete shortly after winter, when the final pavement sealing works will be undertaken.

Mayor Cr James Tehan said Stage 2 will include widening and road strengthening works along the eastern section of Dead Horse Lane, and on sections of Mt Battery Road and Greenvale Lane as shown in the map below. Construction works will include earthworks, bitumen surfacing, culvert construction and line marking.

“The roadworks will be carried out in stages to minimise the traffic impact and are expected to continue through to early 2023. While access will be provided to businesses along the route during construction, all road users are advised to take care and use alternative routes where possible as traffic conditions will change, and traffic control measures will be in place throughout the duration of the work,” Cr Tehan said.

“These works are part of Council’s objective to improve road safety and traffic movements in and around the Mansfield township.”

The project is jointly funded by the Australian Government and Mansfield Shire Council. Council has budgeted to borrow $2.6 million for both Stage 1 and Stage 2 of the project and has received $1.95 million from the Australian Government’s Heavy Vehicle Safety and Productivity Program.
