The Great Victorian Bike Ride is Australia’s most iconic riding holiday which has provided lifelong memories for more than 200,000 riders, including 60,000 students, and given them the opportunity to ride through and experience the best of regional Victoria since 1984. Commonly known as The Great Vic, is a non-competitive fully supported nine-day annual bicycle touring event organised by Bicycle Network. The ride takes different routes around the countryside of the state of Victoria, Australia each year.

This year the ride is from Wodonga to Healsville with the rest day being here in Mansfield on Thursday 28 November for the estimated 2,800 riders.

There are multiple sites organised for the rest day and visits to outlying towns planned as well as a hub in High St for riders to rest, shop and take advantage of all the businesses and attractions Mansfield Shire has to offer.

Information will be available via a “takeover” of the High Country visitor app for people in the Mansfield region on the day.  This will be focused around four main areas:

  • Food & Drink
  • See & Do
  • Youth (600 participants are from schools)
  • Bus Shuttles

So, what are doing?

High St Hub

The High St hub will include two shuttle bus stops (Weingotts Electrical and Freemasons) to allow access to the main shopping and dining district in Mansfield township. This site will have music playing through the speaker network, and feature picnic rugs, additional chairs and tables and various chill out zones.

There will be some additional food offerings to assist with the large numbers however not so much as to take away from our local offerings, it is anticipated these will be full to the brim. The hub will also feature a massage and recovery zone.

Youth Spaces

The Mansfield Swimming Pool will act as a youth hub with $6 entry for the School Children on the ride, inflatables, music and a FREE BBQ provided by our FReeZA group and funding.  The Mansfield Youth Centre will also be open for the day to provide spaces for relaxing, pool, Xbox, board games, crafts and more.

Bus Shuttles/Network

We have created two town loops and a timetabled route to outerlying regions for the rest day using local transport companies to provide a network of offerings to ensure the load of visitors is spread around town, have lots to do and can benefit as many local businesses as possible.

The network will run a town loop on Wednesday night to allow for dining out as well, this was formed with feedback from the bicycle network that the night before the rest day is the main dining out evening.

We also encourage local residents to join in the festivities, jump on the shuttles and show the riders our famed Mansfield Hospitality.
