Young people from Mansfield Shire's Youth Advisory Group, Chaos for Change, travelled to Melbourne on 9 September to learn more about Victoria's parliamentary system.

The group - Jamie Fisher, Erin Luman, Ailish Luman and Jasper Watts - joined Youth Advisory Groups and Youth Councils from across the North East, including representatives from Wangaratta, Indigo Shire and Moira Shire, for a tour and introduction to Parliament.

The day included a look through the history of Parliament House and a 'Parliament 101' session on how the Victorian parliamentary system works.

The group sat in on Question Time, watching Members debate issues including roads, youth homelessness and other matters affecting Victorian communities.

Steph O'Halloran Team Leader Youth Services at Mansfield Shire Council said the participants learnt a lot from the day.

“The opportunity to visit Parliament and speak directly with people involved in Victoria’s political system has given our young people a greater understanding of how government works and how
they can contribute to conversations about issues that matter to them,” she said.

The experience will provide valuable insight as the Youth Advisory Group progressing the Youth Action Plan. The plan, developed by the 2025 Youth Advisory Group, focuses on youth engagement, life skills, youth mental health and other local priorities in Mansfield Shire.
