Council is calling for expressions of interest from people across Mansfield shire’s tourism and business sector to join a new Tourism Reference Group.

The group will bring together individuals from a range of backgrounds to give Council independent and informed advice on tourism-related strategies, policy and initiatives. Members will act in an advisory capacity, offering their unique perspective to help Council make well-informed decisions on tourism matters that affect the whole shire.

Mayor Cr Steve Rabie said getting local voices around the table was key to getting tourism right for Mansfield Shire.

"Our tourism industry is such a big part of what makes this shire tick and the people working and earning their living in tourism every day know it better than anyone," Cr Rabie said.

"If we are going to successfully plan for the future in a way that actually works for our tourism operators, we need to hear from the people on the ground. We need the local knowledge that’s sitting within our community. This is a great chance for locals to have a real say in shaping where tourism in our shire goes next."

Council is specifically seeking expressions of interest to form a tourism reference group that consists of:

  • 2-3 accommodation providers
  • 1-2 visitor experience operators
  • 1-2 retail sector representatives
  • 1-2 caravan and holiday park operators
  • 1 transport provider
  • 2-3 food and beverage operators
  • 1 Delatite Chamber of Commerce member

The objectives of the Tourism Reference Group are to provide industry insight into local tourism trends, opportunities and risks, strengthen collaboration between Council and the tourism sector and promote sustainable and balanced tourism growth across the Shire

People interested in joining the Tourism Reference Group are encouraged to submit an expression of interest to economic.development@mansfield.vic.gov.au.
