Taungurung Arts Trail Update
The Taungurung Arts Trail is taking shape as a significant cultural initiative within the Mansfield Station Precinct redevelopment.
The project celebrates Taungurung culture, stories and connection to Country through a series of artworks that will be integrated throughout the precinct, creating opportunities for visitors and the community to engage with Taungurung culture and perspectives.
Designs and concepts are progressing across several commissioned artworks, including Bundjil, the precinct sculptures, the Storytelling Fence and the Bogong Moth artworks. The Dog Park Panel artwork is also progressing, with the project continuing to bring together artists, cultural knowledge and creative concepts.
Planning for installation is underway, with works expected to commence soon.
The Taungurung Arts Trail will contribute to the character and identity of the redeveloped Station Precinct, creating a place where art, culture, history and community come together.

Bogong Moth by Samantha Trist
A large sculptural overhead installation representing the Deberra (Bogong Moth) to be positioned above the Gadhaba Gathering Place. This Bogong Moth will be mounted on a frame that can be incorporated into the artwork with additional elements. The width of the moth is expected to be around 6-7m to cover the seating underneath.

Storytelling fencing Iluka Sax-Williams
Decorative screening fence located adjacent to the Gadhaba Gathering Place.

Bundjil Sculpture by Iluka Sax-Williams
A prominent sculptural representation of Bundjil, the creator spirit and ancestral being.
The sculpture will be mounted on a raised pole approx. 2.5m in height with a wingspan of 4-5m within the museum forecourt so that it rises above the precinct as a landmark cultural feature and welcoming element.

Fertilizer Shed Mural Aunty Jo Honeysett
A large-scale mural (approximately 18.5m x 2.2m) on the exterior of the Fertilizer Shed. West and South wall.
The shed and amenities block occupy a highly visible position facing the Rail Trail and will also be visible from the playground, pump track and Maroondah Highway, making it a key visual feature of the precinct.

Dog Park Panels
A series of decorative Corten steel panels to be installed along the fencing of the off-leash dog.
The panels will incorporate cut-out designs reflecting the seasons, movement across Country and the flora and fauna traditionally utilised by the Taungurung people. These elements will transform a functional fence into a visual storytelling feature.
