This school holidays, young people across the Shire can enjoy a free barbecue and free activities in their home towns thanks to Council’s ‘Youth on the Move’ trailer.
On the road from Tuesday 6 - Friday 9 April, the trailer and the youth services team will visit outlying communities including Bonnie Doon, Jamieson and Tolmie, plus the Mansfield Township, offering support and providing an opportunity for young people to connect.
The ‘Youth on the Move’ initiative was launched in January this year and made possible with funding from the State Department of Premier and Cabinet’s ‘Engage!’ program, along with Council’s commitment to make youth programs and activities more accessible to young people living in outlying communities.
Mayor Mark Holcombe said “Youth on the Move was developed to address the gap in our youth services delivery to young residents living in towns like Bonnie Doon, Tolmie and Jamieson.
“Through Council’s Youth Strategy and Action Plan 2019-23, we have made a commitment to connect, develop, and support young people to live safe, happy, and healthy lives.
“As there is no transport to and from Mansfield where our Youth Centre is situated, this is our way of beginning to address this gap and deliver on our commitment. If they can’t come to us, we will go to them”, said Mayor Mark Holcombe.
