Young people living in outlying communities within Mansfield Shire will soon have access to youth programs and activities thanks to a new service on wheels.
The brand new youth trailer has been funded by the State Department of Premier and Cabinet’s ‘Engage!’ program, and will enable the Mansfield Shire Council’s youth services team to travel to young people across the Shire.
“There has always been a gap in our youth services, with young people from outlying communities missing out on activities and programs held in town due to the lack of transport.” said Mayor Mark Holcombe. “This new initiative will play an important role in addressing this gap; if the youth can’t come to us, our team will go to them”.
Excitingly, the travelling youth team will also have opportunities to partner with other local service providers to bring much needed support to our outlying communities.
“We have plans for mental health and employment support services to travel along with our youth team, to provide much needed support to members of the community who have no means to travel into town” said Mayor Holcombe.
Members of the youth community are invited to submit name suggestions for the new trailer via the Youth Centre Facebook page. All contributors will also be invited to help design and create a fun and fresh look for the trailer.
The youth trailer will launch for its first outing on Thursday 14 January, and park at the Bonnie Doon Community Centre from 1pm-4pm. It will travel to Jamieson the following week on Thursday January 21.
