Update on the fire situation 12.45pm Friday 3rd January.

There is a current advice message for Mansfield and the surrounding district. The advice message is that

  • There are two bushfires within the Alpine National Park located near The Bluff that are not yet under control.
  • Fire conditions are expected to worsen over the coming days.

There is currently no threat to communities, but you should continue to stay informed and monitor conditions.

What you should do:

The Alpine National Park and surrounding State Forest are now closed. Campers and visitors to these areas are advised to leave today while it is safe to do so. The Forest Fire Management Victoria facebook page is also a good one to keep an eye on for information https://www.facebook.com/FFMVic/

For further information on the declared State of Disaster - head on over to the https://www.facebook.com/vicemergency/ Facebook page to view this.

If there is any cause for mandatory evacuation from camping areas/day areas and/or townships, Victoria Police ordinarily will come in and request campers/visitors/residents to leave. This directive will NOT come from Council. However, we advise that given the local fire activity (i.e. Howqua River area), visitors should consider leaving. It is, however, at this stage their decision.

If you are in an area that does not have phone service to receive any Vic Emergency notifications and in doubt as to what to do, leave while it is safe to do so.
