Are you interested in becoming a Mansfield Shire councillor?

Local government elections will be held throughout Victoria in October and a candidate information session will be held in Mansfield on 16 July.

Mansfield Shire Mayor, Cr Marg Attley OAM, who was first elected to Council in 2005 and is in her third term as Mayor, encouraged interested residents to attend the session being provided by the Victorian Local Governance Association (VLGA).

“From experience, I know it is crucial that candidates start early in their preparation for local government elections. If they are completely new to it, there is a lot to consider,” Cr Attley said.

The VLGA workshop is designed to increase understanding of councils and council elections in the community, leading to more informed candidates and voters. It takes a holistic approach to building community leadership capacity and informing community members about the business of local government.

The session is scheduled for July 16 at 4pm in the Mansfield Performing Arts Centre. Interested people can register on the VLGA’s website: https://bit.ly/3d77oTE  Bookings are not essential, however we encourage you to register your interest so that we can keep you informed if there are any changes due to the social distancing regulations.

The VLGA also provides a Candidate Guide to the 2020 elections on its website: https://www.vlga.org.au/sites/default/files/Your%20Campaign%20Toolkit%20-%20April%202020.pdf

In addition, later in the year, the Victorian Electoral Commission will provide information sessions on the logistics of local government elections and the responsibilities of candidates.
