Nominate Those Who Support Our Community

In this very unusual year, the support of community groups and individuals has been more important than ever for Mansfield Shire’s communities and now you can nominate them for Council’s Australia Day Awards.

Mansfield Shire CEO, Kaylene Conrick said the citizenship awards have been expanded this year to include Community Group or Organisation of the year.

“This award will be presented to the most outstanding Community Group or Organisation, that has demonstrated a high level of excellence and innovation and provided a significant impact on our community,” Ms Conrick said.

“In addition to the Citizen of the Year, the Young Citizen of the Year and the Senior Citizen of the Year, we have the Community Event of the Year. This year we obviously encourage nominations for online events and / or community projects that have occurred or been adapted to accommodate COVID-safe participation,” she said.

Last year’s Senior Citizen of the Year, Noel Willaton said given the year we have lived through, it’s all the more important to nominate people who have provided support in the community.

“If you know someone who has gone above and beyond to assist people who have been disadvantaged due to COVID-19, I encourage you to nominate them for the relevant award. This year has had a lot of impact on our community,” Mr Willaton said.

“I see the Senior Citizen of the Year award being for people committed to the betterment of the local community. I’d like to see lots of nominations,” he said.

Mr Willaton said when he was named Senior Citizen of the Year, he had mixed emotions.

“It’s certainly something I hadn’t expected or gone looking for. But I was very honoured that someone nominated me. We all have the opportunity to put someone or group into the spotlight for what they contribute to our community.

“I’ve always had a sense of community; my parents ingrained that as we were growing up. There are many people in the Mansfield district with same ethic, so I recommend you consider nominating them.”

Nominations can be made until 5pm, Monday 30 November, 2020 and further details and Nomination Form are available here.
