Council has received a $543,511 State Government grant to refurbish and renew Mansfield Library.
In March 2021, Council applied to the Living Libraries Infrastructure Program for funding to create additional spaces, maximising use of the area available and to make Mansfield Library more welcoming. This Program is always very competitive and Mansfield Shire’s success is recognition of the challenges facing our community due to the bushfires and Covid-19 pandemic.
Mansfield Shire Council Mayor Mark Holcombe said the grant is great news for our highly regarded Library and will help us to meet the future needs of community members and visitors alike.
“This funding means that we can ensure that the Library will continue to attract people to the town centre and respond to the population growth that our Shire is experiencing,” said Mayor Holcombe.
“Mansfield Library will continue to be a place where people come together. The new purpose built spaces for children, families and teenagers will be lively and inviting and stimulate learning,” he continued.
The project will improve accessibility to the Library including new shelving and furniture. Sustainability initiatives include improved ventilation and temperature control, installation of new energy efficient lighting, double glazing and improved insulation which will reduce energy use and operating costs.
Works will also invest in technology with a centre for digital learning and resources available to visitors, providing technology-enabled spaces aimed to stimulate the local, regional and state creative economy. People working from home or remotely will be able to access a quiet space and students will have a dedicated study space.
Detailed planning and design for the project will be undertaken during August and September 2021 and it is anticipated that construction works will take place from October to December 2021.
The Library will be closed for a short time during construction and information to the community of arrangements during this time will be made available as soon as possible.
