The Mansfield Resource Recovery Centre hours will change from 1 August, now opening at 9am on Wednesdays and Fridays and closing at 2pm on both days.

Mansfield Mayor, Mark Holcombe said the community had sought the option of accessing the Centre in the morning.

“The new operating hours should prove beneficial to both ratepayers and commercial trade, with materials able to be disposed of earlier in the day rather than holding over to the afternoon. This will also allow people to continue to contribute to the community’s recycling efforts,” Cr Holcombe said.

Last financial year Council sent 31 tonnes of electronic waste to be recycled.

“That’s 31 tonnes of computers, laptops, servers, mobile phones, printers, photocopiers, televisions and other screens that have not gone to landfill. Our community should be pretty proud of that,” he said.

The Resource Recovery Centre also shipped for recycling about 470 tonnes of scrap steel during 2020-21 as well as 949 mattresses and 497 items of soft furnishings, such as couches.

“We encourage people to continue to use the Centre so that these types of products are taken out of the waste stream. The new opening hours mean people can now do so earlier in the day.”

Further information regarding the changes to operating hours can be directed to Council’s Waste Team on 5775 8555.
