Mansfield Dual Court Stadium - A Partnership Approach
Monday, 9 December, 2019 - 12:45
The new Dual Court Stadium is another step closer with the signing of a Joint Use Agreement by Mansfield Shire Council and Mansfield Secondary College School Council.
A Joint Use Agreement is a formal legal agreement setting out the rights and responsibilities of the parties and applies to both the construction and operation of the new facility.
“We are so pleased to be able to partner with Mansfield Secondary College for the construction of a dual court indoor sports stadium and dual outdoor multipurpose courts” said Mayor, Cr. Marg Attley.
“This is a great outcome for both the Mansfield community and the Secondary College. We have a growing population and integrated community facilities such as this play a vital role in creating healthy communities, enhancing wellbeing and building social networks” said Cr Attley.
With student numbers exceeding what is required to entitle the secondary college to a sports stadium, Mansfield Secondary College were successful in securing funds in the 2018-19 State budget to construct a single court sports stadium at the school.
Embracing the opportunity to work with Mansfield Secondary College and the Department of Education to expand the single court stadium into a dual court versatile community sports stadium, Council undertook a detailed feasibility study. This included a financial business case and was successful in securing additional funds from the Australian Government. These funds will be used to expand the construction to include a dual court indoor sports stadium, dual outdoor multipurpose courts, car-parking and school bus turn-around with appropriate landscaping.
Timothy Hall, Principal of Mansfield Secondary College said “We are excited to be working in partnership with Mansfield Shire Council. ‘Together, we are looking forward to creating great facilities both for the students at our school and for the community more widely. The Secondary College is intrinsically linked with the Mansfield Community and this project is another great example of that synergy.
Construction of the new facility is expected to commence in early 2020, with completion in late 2020.
