With a heavy heart, Mansfield Shire Council would like to share that John Collyer, an integral part of the youth services team, has announced his retirement.
John has been an influential member of the Mansfield community since he moved to Tolmie (too many years ago to mention!). John has dedicated his life to the young people of Mansfield Shire, at the previous eCafe and now the Youth Centre for almost 15 years.
“I consider it a great privilege to have been given the opportunity to work with young people. I have made some wonderful connections, but I know it is the right time to make this change and enter a new phase of life” shares John.
John leaves a legacy of commitment to the support and development of young people. He has worked tirelessly to advocate for the provision of a youth space, and believes this passion will continue with the team remaining.
“I remain convinced that it is vital to a community to provide a venue where youth can feel welcome, safe and supported. I feel the youth team we have now will carry this forward” said John.
Mansfield Shire Council Mayor, Cr. Harry Westendorp acknowledged and thanked John for his contribution to the Shire. “The influence that John has had on young people in our community is resounding. Many will carry his words of wisdom, guidance and support with them for the rest of their lives” said Cr. Westendorp.
To celebrate the work of John, we invite members of the community to visit the Youth Centre (7 Erril Street) on Friday 20 December 2019. An afternoon tea will be held from 3pm, however we will be open from 1pm-6pm to give everyone an opportunity to come by and offer their thanks and well wishes to John throughout the afternoon.
