Mansfield Shire Council would like to hear the community’s views on its draft Waste Management Strategy and is inviting people to join an online forum on Monday, 29 June at 7.30pm.

Mansfield Shire Mayor, Cr Marg Attley OAM said Council held initial community and stakeholder workshops in March, before Coronavirus restrictions took effect, and has since been working with consultants to develop the draft.

“Now we are interested to hear what the community thinks of the draft. We’d encourage everyone to read the draft and attend the online forum. Or people can provide feedback via our website,” Cr Attley said.

The vision for the draft Waste Management Strategy is:

"We are responsible for the waste we create. We reduce, re-use or recycle our waste wherever possible and sustainably manage any residual waste. We aim to manage all our waste within the Shire."

“We’d like to understand if the community believes we have the vision right? It will guide the actions in the strategy, so it’s an important starting point,” she said.

“We’d also like to check that the goals outlined in the strategy are suitable and that the actions are appropriate to tackle the challenges we're trying to address?”

“We know our community highly values our environment and sustainable use of resources. Therefore, we are keen to make sure we hear from them and provide several ways people can be involved, if they haven’t already been.
