As part of Council’s Engage! Program, six young people aged 16 – 25, who successfully apply for employment at Mansfield swimming pool, will be funded to gain qualifications in both first aid and lifeguarding.
Engage! Program Coordinator, Kristy Wells said Council received $120,000 over three years for the Engage! Program through the Department of Premier and Cabinet.
“The Lifeguard Training and Employment Pathway program was created in 2018 in response to an identified need for young people to have more local and industry specific employment opportunities,” Ms Wells said.
Mansfield Secondary College student, Ben Medcalf, took part in the program in 2018 .
“It’s a great first job. The work is fun, you get to know the community more and meet new friends. You get qualifications that you can use in your resume, and the money is great!” Ben said.
Interested young people apply for these roles through the standard employment pathway for Lifeguards at the Mansfield Pool, and selection will be based on the quality of application and resume. Successful applicants will then receive the training in readiness for summer.
Applications open on Friday 23 August and full details are available on our Current Vacancies page.
If extra support with resume writing and job ready skills is needed, young people can contact Councils Youth Services Team on 5775 8619 or email email@example.com.
