Mansfield Shire Council has refurbished the Tennis Hut in Jamieson.
The hut had been deemed unsafe when damage had exposed asbestos in the ceiling.
Mayor Cr Mark Holcombe said the upgrades to the hut were delivered as part of Council’s commitment to health and wellbeing.
“The community make great use of the tennis courts and they needed a safe, comfortable space to add amenity to the tennis court facility,” said Cr Holcombe.
David and Lyn Lean said they looked forward to enjoying the new tennis hut.
“A keen group of Jamieson locals who play tennis regularly are very grateful to Council for upgrading the old asbestos shed,” they said.
“The hut will not only offer shelter from the sun and inclement weather, but the new facilities will enable players to socialise and enjoy refreshments during and after the games.
“This will undoubtedly encourage a revitalised group with new players welcome to a friendly, social morning of tennis.
The Jamieson Community Group said they were thrilled with the new Tennis Hut.
“The shell of the hut was kept and then refurbished – which still keeps the charm of the original building,” the group said.
“The Jamieson Community Group are extremely grateful to the Mansfield Council for the work they have done in getting this hut to a useable state.”
The tennis hut sits alongside the tennis courts, near the public toilet. It has a space for making tea and coffee and a serving window.
The project was funded by Council’s Building Refurbishment Program. It was budgeted to cost $50,000 and was delivered under budget at a cost of $43,296.
