In response to a community request, Council is proposing to incorporate an indigenous name to the geographic feature currently known as Mount Battery.

Mount Battery is a geographical feature located in Mansfield, Victoria. The proposal is to create a dual name to recognise the landmark as Mount Battery / Beolite.

Why Beolite?  There is early mapping evidence that the mountain is known to the Taungurung people as Beolite, which was the name of a local Chief in Daung wurrung language

How You Can Be Involved

The proposal has received in principal support from the Taungurung Land and Waters Council and the Office of Geographic Names.

We are now seeking community feedback.

The simplest way to tell us if you support or object to the proposal is to go to Council’s website Have Your Say portal (www.mansfield.vic.gov.au/consultation) and complete the short three question survey.

Alternatively, if you prefer not to submit an online response you can:

  • Email us: council@mansfield.vic.gov.au
  • Post us a letter (Private Bag 1000, Mansfield VIC 3724)
  • Drop in your written feedback (33 Highett Street, Mansfield)

Please title your submission "Indigenous naming proposal for Mt Battery (Beolite)".

The opportunity for feedback closes 30 November 2019.
