What should the Mansfield Shire look like by 2040? Mansfield Shire Council is starting to collect ideas from the community as it develops its Planning Strategy over the next nine months.

Mansfield Shire Mayor, Cr Marg Attley OAM said Council is preparing a Planning Strategy to manage changes in land use and development over the next 15 to 20 years.

“Council is required to review its Planning Scheme on a regular basis and the Planning Strategy project will guide the future Planning Scheme review,” Cr Attley said.

“We would like the community’s input to identify core values that they wish to protect, promote, or grow and tell us what a vision for sustainable development in the Shire looks like. We would also like to hear about any potential immediate or long-term planning challenges they see,” she said.

Cr Attley said people with ideas and views about the values and vision for the Shire can contribute these via Council’s website now on the Have Your Say page: https://haveyoursay.mansfield.vic.gov.au/mansfield-planning-strategy

“The next step is that later in July we’ll release the Background Analysis and Discussion paper on the topic and start broader community consultation on the ideas contained in the paper,” she said.

The Planning Strategy will:

  • Facilitate orderly development of urban land uses
  • Identify land particularly suited to agricultural productivity and environmental significance
  • Identify the need for additional infrastructure to service changing communities.
  • Enable change in line with the character and qualities of the Shire’s townships and settlements.
