With the impact of COVID-19 restrictions on industry, business and the local community, it’s more important than ever that Mansfield Shire Council receives feedback on it draft Economic Development Strategy.
Mansfield Mayor, Cr Marg Attley OAM said the strategy sets out a plan to grow and enhance the local economy and to improve liveability for all residents over the next five years.
“As we emerge after the restrictions, strengthening our community and creating a resilient business base will be a top priority. This Strategy will form the basis of how we go about that,” Cr Attley said.
“While we know people’s time and attention is taken up with COVID-19, we really wanted to remind the community that they have the opportunity to shape this Strategy and they have until the end of April to make a submission,” Cr Attley said.
“We want to know if our community believes the Strategy will serve Mansfield well as we emerge from the current restrictions to grow and prosper to a healthier and very bright future,” she said.
One of the opportunities included in the Strategy is attracting young families to increase the population, with a focus on diversifying education choices.
Part of the short-term action plan is to build the resilience of local businesses through training and to improve transport and logistics to Mansfield.
Cr Attley said the community and business were consulted in the development of the Strategy and identified the key challenges and opportunities ahead.
“The four themes of the strategy are to strengthen and diversify the economy, enhance the visitor economy, drive growth in infrastructure and public land enhancement and best practise economic development,” she said.
“The strategy provides clear vision and activity-based planning for future growth with a focus on building resilience, our current strengths and responding to our changing local conditions, our needs and our aspirations.”
Community members, businesses and stakeholders are invited to view the Draft Economic Development Strategy on our Have Your Say Portal and email comments to email@example.com by 30 April. The draft Strategy has been open for public comment since 31 March.
