Have Your Say on Council's Community Engagement Policy
Thursday, 17 December, 2020 - 18:00
Mansfield Shire Council is inviting community members to have their say and help develop a new Community Engagement Policy.
The new policy aligns with the requirements of the Local Government Act 2020 and outlines Council’s commitment to provide the community with genuine opportunities to contribute and inform decisions that affect our Shire. In accordance with the Act, Council is required to adopt a Community Engagement Policy by 1 March 2021.
“The draft policy was one of the first pieces of business for the new Council and will be available for feedback for an extended period from 17 December until 22 January” said Mayor Cr Mark Holcombe.
“We understand the timing of this consultation is not ideal, however we are constrained by the deadlines of the Act and couldn’t start the process until the end of the Election Period.”
“The new Act also requires councils to undertake deliberative engagement processes on a range of projects. We strongly encourage all members of our community, both resident and non-resident ratepayers, to provide feedback and have their say.”
Community members can view and leave feedback on the draft Policy via the Have Your Say Portal. Alternatively, hard copies of the Policy can be viewed at the Mansfield Library and Council reception. Feedback can be submitted in writing via email to email@example.com or delivered to Council via post or in person.
For more information about the policy, its implementation and how to have your say, contact Council’s Coordinator Community Development, Keira McDonagh, on 5775 8562.
